Database of Early Modern Illustrated Encyclopedias (launched July 2017)

The database gathers together illustrated encyclopaedias and other illustrated didactic or reference works of the early modern period, from the 1666 Kinmōzui (A Collection of Images to Enlighten the Young) compiled by Nakamura Tekisai, through to the early Meiji period.
The database is compiled primarily from works held in the International Research Center for Japanese Studies and other domestic research institutions and museums. It will be continually updated to include new materials.
